Online sports betting is legal in Kenya for adults 18 and over with operators licensed by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya (GRA) under the Gambling Control Act 2025. Players pay 5% excise duty on deposits, and the Finance Act 2026 reintroduced a 20% withholding tax on winnings.
Kenya overhauled its betting law with the Gambling Control Act 2025, which replaced the old Betting Control and Licensing Board with the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). Detailed regulations came into force on 30 June 2026 and started the GRA’s first licensing cycle, with old BCLB licences valid only for a transition period. Every bookmaker in our Kenyan ranking holds a GRA licence, and we show the licence numbers in each review so you can check them.
You must be 18 or over to bet. Kenyan bettors also pay tax at both ends: excise duty on deposits and withholding tax on winnings. The rates have changed several times recently, so check our Kenya laws guide for the current position before you budget.
In Kenya, a betting site lives or dies on its M-Pesa integration. Almost everyone deposits and withdraws by mobile money, and six of the seven sportsbooks we list accept M-Pesa, with several also taking Airtel Money. 1xBet and MozzartBet pay out to M-Pesa within minutes in our checks, and minimum deposits are low across the board, starting at KES 5 with MozzartBet.
BC.Game is the exception: its Kenyan site works with crypto only, which will rule it out for most bettors. We do not show welcome offers for Kenya, because the new regulations tighten what operators may advertise.
1xBet leads on 8.6, with the largest range of sports and markets in the country. 22Bet, on 8.4, is our choice for live betting, and both run locally licensed .co.ke sites, which are the only versions of these brands that are legal in Kenya. MozzartBet is the go-to for jackpot competitions, Melbet for odds boosts, and Dafabet for Asian handicap odds on football. WrBet is the newest licensee, simple and modern but with a short track record.
Football dominates the betting calendar, led by the English Premier League, with Harambee Stars internationals and the Kenyan Premier League close behind. Rugby sevens, cricket and basketball all have their own markets on the bigger sites.
Responsible gambling scores are low across the Kenyan market in our ratings, mainly because several standard tools could not be confirmed. The new rules require age verification and a national self-exclusion register, which should improve this as it comes into use.
Until then, use the limit and self-exclusion options inside your account, and keep betting to money you can afford to lose. You can report concerns about any operator, or ask about self-exclusion, through the Gambling Regulatory Authority at gra.go.ke.
Yes. Adults aged 18 and over can bet online with operators licensed by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya (GRA).

A 5% excise duty is charged on money you deposit into a betting account, and the Finance Act 2026 reintroduced a 20% withholding tax on winnings, deducted by the sportsbook.
Check the GRA's list of licensed operators and match the licence number shown on the betting site with the GRA record.
The Gambling Control Act 2025 restricts offers designed to encourage gambling, so we do not advertise sign-up bonuses for Kenya. Check the operator's own site for current terms.
