How we ranked them

We compared the welcome offers of every licensed sportsbook in Nigeria on real value after wagering requirements, minimum odds, time limits and how easy they are to claim. A large headline number with harsh terms ranks below a smaller, fairer offer.

What to look for

  • Wagering requirements: lower is better, 1x to 5x is fair
  • Minimum odds and which bets count towards the rollover
  • How long you have to use the bonus
  • Whether winnings from free bets include the stake

Comparing the welcome offers

Nigeria is one of the few markets we cover where licensed sportsbooks still compete hard on welcome bonuses, and the headline numbers vary enormously. 1xBet leads this ranking with a 300% first deposit bonus, backed by the deepest market list in the country, so the bonus can be used across a wide range of football and other sports. Bet9ja is second with a far smaller ₦2,500 free bet, but it is simple to understand and comes from the country's best-known bookmaker.

BetWinner, third, offers 200% on a first deposit up to ₦130,000, and 22Bet matches 100% up to ₦207,500. Melbet advertises the biggest ceiling at up to ₦480,000, but its welcome bonus carries a higher 10x wagering requirement, which is why it sits fifth rather than first. AccessBet's first deposit bonus up to ₦10,000 is modest, and figures for it differ between sources, so confirm the amount on the site before you deposit. Betway is not on this list because we do not currently record a welcome offer for it in Nigeria.

Why the headline figure is not the whole story

A percentage match tells you how much bonus money you can receive, not how easy it is to turn into cash you can withdraw. Wagering requirements set how many times the bonus, or bonus plus deposit, must be bet before withdrawal. Minimum odds rules often exclude short-priced favourites, and many offers must be used within a set number of days. 22Bet, for example, only counts accumulators towards its wagering, which suits a bettor who already plays multiples and frustrates one who prefers singles.

Free bets work differently from deposit matches. With most free bets, only the winnings are paid out and the free stake itself is not returned, so a ₦2,500 free bet at odds of 2.00 would return ₦2,500 rather than ₦5,000.

Checklist before you claim

Read the full terms on the operator's own Nigerian site, because the licensed .ng versions of these brands can run different offers from their sites elsewhere.

  • Work out the total amount you must wager and whether that fits your normal betting.
  • Check the minimum odds and whether singles count.
  • Look at the time limit and which sports or markets are excluded.
  • Confirm the minimum qualifying deposit, which can be higher than the site's normal minimum.
  • Remember that in Lagos 5% withholding tax applies to net winnings, including those made with bonus funds.

Bonuses are not free money

A bonus is a marketing tool designed to keep you betting. Only claim one if you would have deposited that amount anyway, and never increase a deposit just to unlock a bigger match. Betting is for adults 18 and over.
