How we ranked them

We checked which payment methods each sportsbook licensed in Nigeria accepts on its local site. Every sportsbook here takes OPay; they are ordered by our overall review score.

What to look for

  • Whether OPay works for withdrawals as well as deposits
  • Minimum and maximum amounts for the method
  • Fees charged by the sportsbook or the payment provider
  • Whether OPay deposits qualify for the welcome offer

Every site here takes OPay

OPay has become one of the most common ways to fund a betting account in Nigeria, and all seven licensed sportsbooks we rank accept it. With payment support equal, the order follows our overall scores. Bet9ja comes first, with OPay sitting alongside PalmPay, USSD and Quickteller in one of the widest local payment menus, and a within-24-hours withdrawal promise.

1xBet is second and adds Flutterwave and crypto to OPay and PalmPay. Betway is third and is the only one of the top three that does not list PalmPay, so if you split your money between both wallets, Bet9ja or 1xBet will be more convenient. Further down, 22Bet stands out for its ₦50 minimum deposit and Melbet for its quoted withdrawal window of 5 minutes to 2 hours.

How OPay deposits usually work

There are two common routes. In the first, you choose OPay at the sportsbook's checkout and approve the payment in the OPay app. In the second, the sportsbook gives you a dedicated account number, and you send money to it from OPay like any other bank transfer. Both should credit your betting balance within moments.

Because an OPay account has its own account number, you can often withdraw winnings straight back into it too. Check that the sportsbook lists OPay or accepts transfers to it as a bank account before you request a withdrawal.

OPay or PalmPay?

Many Nigerian bettors hold both wallets. Every site here except Betway also accepts PalmPay, so you can use whichever has the balance. AccessBet, the smallest brand on the list, pairs OPay with Paystack, Monnify and Flutterwave and quotes withdrawals in 1 to 6 hours, a sensible choice for low-stakes bettors who value a simple site. BetWinner accepts OPay and PalmPay too, but its quoted 12 to 24 hour payout window is slower than Melbet's or 22Bet's.

Tips for betting with OPay

OPay is fast and familiar, which is exactly why a few precautions are worth taking.

  • Make sure your OPay account is verified to a level whose limits cover your deposits and withdrawals.
  • Keep the names on your OPay account and your betting account identical to avoid rejected payouts.
  • Only use payment details shown inside your logged-in betting account, never an account number sent by an agent on WhatsApp or Telegram.
  • Save your OPay transaction reference until the deposit appears; support teams will ask for it.

Keep your wallet and your betting separate

When the same app pays your bills and your bets, it is easy to lose track. A separate budget for betting, or a deposit limit set on the sportsbook, keeps everyday money safe. All of these sites are for adults aged 18 and above.
