How we ranked them

We checked which licensed sportsbooks in the US offer esports and how deep their coverage goes: the number of titles, tournaments beyond the majors, and map or round markets. Books with the widest esports offering rank first; ties are broken by our overall score.

What to look for

  • Coverage of CS2, Dota 2, League of Legends and Valorant
  • Map, round and handicap markets, not just match winner
  • Live betting with stream integration or match trackers
  • Tier 2 tournaments as well as the majors

Esports betting in a state-by-state market

Esports betting is legal in many US states, but it is less uniform than betting on traditional sports. Each regulator decides whether to allow it and often approves specific events or leagues, so the same sportsbook may show different esports markets in New Jersey than in another state. Some states only allow betting on events with adult players or on events that are not held at local colleges.

Where esports is offered, the main titles are Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Dota 2 and Valorant, with Call of Duty and Rocket League appearing on some boards. The biggest events, such as the League of Legends World Championship and the CS2 Majors, have the widest selection of markets. Bet types usually include match winner, map handicaps, total maps and, for the larger events, map winner and first-kill style props.

What each sportsbook offers

BetMGM, bet365 and BetRivers all cover the major esports events, and none of them is an esports specialist, so expect a narrower range than you get for traditional sports. BetMGM ranks first on overall score, helped by strong live betting coverage that extends to its esports markets where they are offered.

bet365 is second. Its international background shows in esports, where it tends to list more tournaments beyond the very biggest, and its odds rating is the highest in our US reviews. It is, however, licensed in fewer states. BetRivers is third: its esports section is simpler, but it is easy to navigate for occasional bettors who mainly follow the big finals.

If esports is your main interest, check the esports section in each app from your own state before signing up, because the list of approved events is what really decides how useful a book is to you.

Tips for betting on esports

  • Check your state's rules first; if esports markets are missing from the app, it is usually because the regulator has not approved them, not because of the sportsbook.
  • Roster changes and patch updates can change a team's form quickly. Follow team news more closely than you would for traditional sports.
  • Map handicaps in CS2 and Valorant often offer better value than straight match winner bets on heavy favourites.
  • Be careful with live esports betting, as streams can be delayed and prices move very fast.

Age and safety

Esports attract a young audience, but the betting age rules do not change: you must be 21 in most legal states and 18 in a few. Licensed sportsbooks verify age and identity before you withdraw, and their deposit limits and self-exclusion tools apply to esports exactly as to any other market.
