Yes. Arizona sports betting is fully legal both online and in person. Governor Doug Ducey signed HB 2772 in April 2021 alongside updated gaming compacts with the state's tribes, and the market launched on 9 September 2021, just in time for the NFL season. It was one of the fastest launches in the country, with numerous apps going live on day one.
The Arizona Department of Gaming licenses and regulates every operator. Licences are split between professional sports franchises and federally recognised tribes, which is why many Arizona sportsbooks are partnered with a team or a tribal gaming enterprise. You must be at least 21 to open an account or place a bet.
All three of the US sportsbooks we review hold Arizona approval: BetMGM, bet365 and BetRivers. That gives Arizona bettors a genuine choice between BetMGM's deep prop menus and rewards scheme, bet365's broad in-play coverage and fast-updating odds, and BetRivers' straightforward interface and loyalty programme. Comparing prices between licensed books on the same game is one of the simplest ways to get better value.
Accounts can be opened remotely from anywhere in the state. Before every wager the app runs a geolocation check, so you need location services enabled and must be physically within Arizona's borders. Bettors near the California, Nevada or Utah lines sometimes see location errors; moving a little further inside the state, or switching from mobile data to Wi-Fi, usually resolves them.
Arizona allows betting on professional and college sports, but player prop markets on college athletes are not offered under current regulator guidance. Esports and certain international events are available depending on what the Department of Gaming approves.
In person, Arizona's licence structure allows sportsbooks at tribal casinos and at venues connected to the state's professional teams, so fans can place a bet on game day before heading to their seats.
Gambling winnings count as taxable income. Arizona applies a flat 2.5% personal income tax rate, and winnings are also reportable for federal tax purposes, so keep a record of your results.
With the Cardinals, Suns, Diamondbacks and Mercury, plus Arizona State and the University of Arizona, the state has a busy betting calendar. Phoenix has also hosted multiple Super Bowls and spring training draws baseball fans every February and March.
The Department of Gaming's Division of Problem Gambling runs a self-exclusion programme and a 24-hour helpline at 1-800-NEXT-STEP. Every licensed app also offers deposit limits, time-outs and cool-off periods.
