Yes. Kansas legalised online and retail sports betting in 2022, when Governor Laura Kelly signed the bill in May, and the market launched on 1 September 2022, just before the NFL season. Sports wagering is technically conducted on behalf of the Kansas Lottery, with the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission handling licensing and oversight. The minimum age is 21.
Online sportsbooks partner with one of the state's casinos, which are managed on behalf of the Lottery in four gaming zones across the state.
Two of the three sportsbooks we review are licensed in Kansas: BetMGM and bet365. BetRivers is not currently available in the state. Kansans can still compare odds between BetMGM, bet365 and the other licensed apps, which helps when hunting for the best price on Chiefs or Jayhawks games.
Geolocation is especially important in the Kansas City metro area, where State Line Road separates Kansas from Missouri. Since Missouri launched its own market in December 2025, residents on both sides can bet legally, but your account will follow the rules and promotions of whichever state you are standing in.
One unusual feature of the Kansas law is that most of the state's share of sports betting revenue is directed to a fund intended to help attract a professional sports franchise to Kansas, a provision widely linked to efforts to lure the Chiefs or Royals across the state line. A smaller share goes to the state's general fund and problem gambling programmes.
Kansas allows betting on college sports, including in-state teams. Winnings are taxable income at state and federal level.
In person, sportsbooks operate at the state's casinos, including Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, and Boot Hill Casino in Dodge City. The law also allows a limited number of retail locations at other venues, though most Kansans bet through mobile apps.
College basketball is central to Kansas sports culture, with the Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats both perennial NCAA tournament teams, and the Sunflower Showdown is a key date on the calendar. Sporting Kansas City also plays its home games in Kansas, and the Kansas Speedway hosts NASCAR weekends that draw bettors from across the region.
