Is online sports betting legal in Oregon?

Yes. Oregon was one of the few states with a limited exemption under the old federal ban, and after the Supreme Court struck that law down in 2018, the state moved quickly. Tribal casinos began taking in-person bets in 2019, and the Oregon Lottery launched its own mobile sportsbook later that year.

Today the Oregon Lottery is responsible for statewide online betting, and tribal sportsbooks are governed by their compacts. The minimum age is 21, and online bets require you to be physically inside Oregon.

Tribal sportsbooks in Oregon

Alongside the Lottery's app, several tribal casinos run their own in-person sportsbooks under their compacts with the state. Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City became the first to take a legal sports bet in Oregon in 2019, and other tribal properties have since added betting counters or kiosks. These venues are not bound by the Lottery's online product rules, so their menus and limits can differ. If you want a wider choice of markets, a tribal sportsbook may be worth a visit, but check each venue's rules on college betting before you go.

One app for the whole state

Oregon does not license a competitive market. Since January 2022, DraftKings has been the Lottery's exclusive online sportsbook partner, replacing the Lottery's original Scoreboard app. That means none of the three US sportsbooks we rank, BetMGM, bet365 or BetRivers, is available to Oregon bettors, and our rankings for the state are empty.

If you live near the borders, keep geolocation in mind. Washington across the Columbia River does not allow statewide mobile betting, while Idaho has no legal sports betting at all, so a trip out of state will not necessarily give you more options.

No betting on college sports

Oregon's distinctive rule is that the Lottery does not offer wagering on college sports, so Ducks and Beavers games, along with all other college events, are off the menu on the state's online sportsbook. Bettors who mainly follow college football or basketball will find Oregon's offering much narrower than in most legal states.

Winnings are subject to Oregon state income tax as well as federal tax.

Blazers, Timbers and responsible play

Professional sport in Oregon centres on the Portland Trail Blazers, the Timbers and the Thorns, all of which are available on the state's sportsbook. If you choose to bet, use the deposit and time limits offered in the app. Oregon offers free problem gambling treatment, and you can reach help through 1-877-MY-LIMIT or the national 1-800-GAMBLER line.
