Apple Pay at Canadian sportsbooks

Apple Pay is the quickest way to fund a sportsbook account from an iPhone. You approve the payment with Face ID or Touch ID, and the card stored in your Apple Wallet is charged without its number being shared with the sportsbook. For Canadians who bet almost entirely on mobile, it removes the step of typing card details into an app.

Treat Apple Pay mainly as a deposit method. Withdrawals are usually sent to another method, most often Interac or a bank account, so set one up before you need it. Because Apple Pay runs on your underlying card, your bank's policy on gambling payments still applies; if a deposit is declined, the card issuer is usually the reason.

Apple Pay is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, but for betting it is mainly used in sportsbook apps on iPhone. If you use an Android phone, Google Pay works in a similar way, though support for it varies between Canadian sportsbooks and it is not part of this ranking. Stake, which currently lists Interac, Visa and Mastercard, does not list Apple Pay.

The three Apple Pay sportsbooks

LeoVegas is first. Its mobile-first app is rated 9.5, the best in Canada, and Apple Pay fits naturally into it. For getting money back out, its Interac withdrawals are quoted at 6 to 24 hours, the fastest in our Canadian data.

888sport is second, taking Apple Pay alongside Interac, MuchBetter, Paysafecard and bank transfer, with Interac and e-wallet payouts quoted at 1 to 5 banking days. TonyBet is third, accepting Apple Pay, Interac, Visa and Mastercard; it is the only one of the three you can also use in Alberta, and it quotes up to 48 hours for e-wallet withdrawals.

Apple Pay tips

  • The card in your Wallet must be in your own name; sportsbooks reject deposits from someone else's card.
  • Check the minimum deposit for Apple Pay in the cashier, as it can differ from other methods.
  • Decide how you will withdraw before you deposit, and verify that method in advance.
  • iPhone Screen Time settings can add an extra layer of control over when betting apps are available.

When deposits take one tap

The convenience of Apple Pay is also its risk: topping up takes seconds. Setting a deposit limit in your sportsbook account adds a pause that Apple Pay itself does not. The minimum age is 19 in Ontario and 18 in Alberta, and Ontarians can reach ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 for free, confidential support.
