We compared every sportsbook licensed in Canada on how many basketball competitions and markets it covers, from the biggest events to lower leagues and player props. Books with a recognised strength in basketball rank first; ties are broken by our overall review score.
The Toronto Raptors remain the centre of Canadian basketball betting, and the growing number of Canadians in the NBA, led by stars such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, means Canadian bettors follow plenty of other teams too. The WNBA has also come to Canada with the Toronto Tempo, and US college basketball draws interest around March Madness.
NBA betting in Canada looks much like it does in the US: point spreads, totals and moneylines, with quarter and half markets, player props on points, rebounds and assists, and futures on the champion and MVP. Same-game combinations are available at all four books in this ranking.
Raptors games are the obvious focus, but Canadian bettors increasingly follow Canadian players across the league, and player props on them are a popular way to back a familiar name without betting on a whole team. Keep in mind that props are priced with a larger margin than spreads and totals.
LeoVegas ranks first. Its mobile-first app, rated 9.5 in our review, is the most polished in Canada, and basketball, with its fast in-game swings, benefits more than most sports from a quick app. It is licensed in Ontario only.
888sport is second, with a wide range of pre-match and live markets and the backing of a brand that has been online since 1997; its app is a little less polished than LeoVegas. TonyBet is third and is available in both Ontario and Alberta, making it one of the few options for Alberta bettors. Stake, fourth, is licensed in Alberta only, has a large range of markets and offers live streaming.
Private sportsbooks are legal in Ontario for players 19 and over and in Alberta for players 18 and over. Elsewhere, provincial lottery sites such as PlayNow and PROLINE+ are the only legal online options. With games almost every night from October to April, decide on a weekly budget at the start of the season.
