How we ranked them

We checked which licensed sportsbooks in Canada offer esports and how deep their coverage goes: the number of titles, tournaments beyond the majors, and map or round markets. Books with the widest esports offering rank first; ties are broken by our overall score.

What to look for

  • Coverage of CS2, Dota 2, League of Legends and Valorant
  • Map, round and handicap markets, not just match winner
  • Live betting with stream integration or match trackers
  • Tier 2 tournaments as well as the majors

Esports betting in Canada

Canada has an active esports scene, with teams such as the Toronto Ultra in Call of Duty and a large audience for Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Dota 2 and Valorant. Regulated sportsbooks in Ontario and Alberta offer markets on the major events, and coverage at the best books goes well beyond the biggest finals.

Typical esports markets include match winner, map handicaps, total maps and, for bigger events, map winner and in-game props. In Ontario, operators may only offer betting on events that meet the regulator's standards, so you may find fewer smaller tournaments than at unregulated sites.

Alberta opened its regulated market in 2026, which gave esports bettors there a licensed option for the first time outside the provincial site. Ontario bettors have a choice of three books, and the main differences between them are how many tournaments beyond the majors they list and whether they offer map-level markets. Smaller regional leagues are where the gap between books is largest.

Stake leads for esports

Stake is first with excellent esports markets. Its large range of sports and esports markets is one of its main strengths, and it is the only book here with live streaming. It is licensed in Alberta only, on a separate regulated Alberta site, and is new to regulated markets.

LeoVegas is second with wide esports coverage and Canada's best-rated app; it is available in Ontario only. TonyBet is third, also with wide coverage, and is available in both Ontario and Alberta. 888sport, fourth, covers the major esports events but is less of a specialist.

For Ontario bettors who mainly follow the biggest Valorant, CS2 or League of Legends events, any of the three Ontario books covers the essentials; if you follow smaller tournaments, compare each book's esports menu for the events you care about before opening an account.

Esports betting tips

  • Follow roster changes and game patches, which can change team form quickly.
  • Map handicaps in CS2 and Valorant can offer better value than match winner bets on favourites.
  • Esports streams may be delayed; be cautious with live bets.
  • Check that your sportsbook is registered with iGaming Ontario or licensed by the AGLC before depositing.

Age rules apply

Esports have a young audience, but the betting age is 19 in Ontario and 18 in Alberta. Licensed sportsbooks verify age and identity, and their limit and self-exclusion tools apply to esports too. Ontario players can also use BetGuard, the province's centralised self-exclusion programme.
