Most bettors in Canada's regulated provinces now bet on their phones. Licensed sportsbooks in Ontario and Alberta offer iOS and Android apps, and these apps use your location to confirm you are inside the province where the operator is licensed. Take your phone to Quebec or British Columbia and the app will block bets until you return.
Every regulated market has its own version of a sportsbook's app. An Ontario app is separate from the Alberta version and from the versions a brand runs in other countries, with its own accounts and responsible gambling settings, so download the one that matches your province. All the apps in this ranking are available from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Sportsbook apps also give you quick access to responsible gambling tools; in Ontario, operators are required to offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion within the account.
LeoVegas leads with an app rated 9.5 in our review, the highest of any Canadian sportsbook. It was built mobile-first, and that shows in fast navigation, a clean bet slip and smooth live betting. Owned by MGM Resorts and also licensed in the UK, it is available in Ontario only.
888sport is second with an app rating of 8.9. Its strength is breadth, with a wide range of pre-match and live markets, but our review notes the app is less polished than LeoVegas. TonyBet is third with a rating of 8.6; it is a smaller brand, but it is one of the few apps available in both Ontario and Alberta, though you need the correct version for each market. Stake is not part of this ranking.
Apps make it easy to place a bet in a spare minute, which is exactly why notification settings matter. Switching off promotional push alerts lets you bet when you decide to, not when the app reminds you. Ontario players aged 19 and over can also register with BetGuard to exclude themselves from every regulated operator in the province in one step.
