Is sports betting legal in Yukon?

Sports betting is legal in Yukon, but it works very differently from Ontario or Alberta. The territory has no online sportsbook of its own and does not license private operators, so legal wagering happens in person through Sport Select, the sports lottery product of the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). Lotteries Yukon distributes WCLC products in the territory, and Sport Select tickets are sold at lottery retailers in Whitehorse and in communities such as Dawson City and Watson Lake.

Since late 2021 Sport Select has included single-event wagers as well as traditional multi-game parlays, following the federal Bill C-218 change. You must be 19 or older to buy a ticket.

Online options for Yukoners

At present there is no legal online sportsbook licensed for Yukon. Government sites in other provinces, such as PlayNow in British Columbia or Play Alberta, only accept customers located in their own province, and the private brands we review, LeoVegas, 888sport, TonyBet and Stake, are licensed only for Ontario or Alberta. Their regulated sites check your location and will not take bets from the territory.

Offshore sites that accept Yukon players are not licensed by any Canadian authority. We do not list them, because there is no regulator to step in if a payout is refused or an account is closed.

Will Yukon get online betting?

We have found no announced plan for a Yukon online sportsbook or private licensing system as of late 2026. Given the territory's small population, any future online offer seems more likely to come through its existing lottery partnerships than through a stand-alone market, but nothing has been confirmed.

Many Yukoners travel south to Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver for work, medical appointments or holidays. In Alberta, adults aged 18 and over can legally use AGLC-registered sportsbooks such as TonyBet or Stake for as long as they are physically in the province. In British Columbia, by contrast, the only legal online option is BCLC's PlayNow site.

Northern sport and support services

Yukon sports culture blends NHL fandom, usually for the Canucks, Oilers or Flames, with northern traditions such as dog sledding and the Arctic Winter Games, which Whitehorse has hosted in the past. Sport Select covers mainstream leagues, so most local bets are on the NHL, NFL and CFL.

If gambling is becoming a problem, Yukon's Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services can be reached on 1-866-456-3838 for confidential support.
