How we ranked them

We checked which payment methods each sportsbook licensed in the UK accepts on its local site. Every sportsbook here takes PayPal; they are ordered by our overall review score.

What to look for

  • Whether PayPal works for withdrawals as well as deposits
  • Minimum and maximum amounts for the method
  • Fees charged by the sportsbook or the payment provider
  • Whether PayPal deposits qualify for the welcome offer

Why PayPal is popular with UK bettors

PayPal is one of the most widely used payment methods at UK bookmakers. Deposits are instant, you do not share your card details with the betting site, and withdrawals are often among the fastest available. PayPal also only works with operators it has approved, which adds another layer of reassurance on top of a Gambling Commission licence.

Seven of the nine UK sportsbooks we review accept PayPal. Unibet and Highbet do not, though Unibet offers Skrill and Neteller as e-wallet alternatives and Highbet supports Skrill and Neteller as well.

The best PayPal sportsbooks compared

BetMGM tops this ranking, and PayPal is where it shines: its stated payout time for PayPal withdrawals is minutes, against up to three days for cards. Combined with its 9.1 overall score and 4 x £10 Free Bets welcome offer, it is an easy choice if PayPal is your preferred method.

LeoVegas is second, with payouts from instant to 24 hours via e-wallets and the best-rated app on our list, which makes PayPal deposits on mobile quick. bet365, in third, quotes withdrawals within 24 hours via PayPal and has the widest range of payment options overall, so you can switch to Trustly or open banking if you ever need to.

William Hill, Betfred, Betway and VBet all accept PayPal too. Payout speeds vary between them, from Betway's two to 24 hours via e-wallets to William Hill's two to four working days, so check the cashier page if speed is important to you.

Using PayPal at a betting site

A few points catch out first-time PayPal users:

  • Your PayPal account must be funded by a debit card or bank account; credit cards cannot be used for gambling in the UK, even through an e-wallet.
  • Some welcome offers exclude PayPal deposits, so read the bonus terms before your first deposit.
  • The name on your PayPal account must match your betting account, or withdrawals may be delayed.
  • Withdrawals usually go back to PayPal if that is how you deposited.

Keeping an eye on your spending

PayPal's speed is a strength, but it also makes topping up very easy. Your PayPal activity history gives a clear record of every deposit and withdrawal, which is a simple way to check how much you have actually spent on betting each month. If the total surprises you, the bookmaker's deposit limits are the next step.

If you prefer to keep betting funds separate altogether, some punters set up a dedicated PayPal balance for betting and top it up from their bank once a month. When that balance runs out, the month's betting is done.
