Is Sports Betting Legal in France?

Private operators must obtain a five-year ANJ approval for each activity (sports betting, horse-race betting, poker) and may only take bets on the sports and result types on the ANJ's authorised list. FDJ keeps a monopoly on retail sports betting and lotteries.

How to check a sportsbook's licence

  1. Check that the site uses a .fr domain and shows the ANJ logo and approval number in its footer.
  2. Open the ANJ list of approved operators on anj.fr and find the operator and domain.
  3. If the site is not on the list, do not deposit: it is illegal in France and offers no ANJ protection.
