Is Sports Betting Legal in Peru?

Companies (Peruvian firms or foreign operators with a local presence) apply to MINCETUR's DGJCMT for a separate authorisation for each technology platform: remote sports betting and/or remote casino games. Authorisations are granted by directorial resolution, last six years, and require certified platforms and a guarantee.

  • 2023

    Law 31806

Amended Law 31557 to clarify definitions and scope, including how foreign operators are covered and taxed.

  • 2023

Brought remote gaming and sports betting within the selective consumption tax (ISC) and completed the tax rules for the sector.

How to check a sportsbook's licence

  1. Scroll to the footer of the betting site and note the Peruvian company name and its MINCETUR registration code (sports betting codes start with 21).
  2. Open MINCETUR's remote gaming portal and go to the list of authorisation holders (Titulares de autorización de explotación).
  3. Confirm that the company, the code and the website domain match and that the authorisation is current; a .pe domain alone is not proof of a licence.
